bobbin lace and portrays meaningful numbers
within its repeated pattern.
Stains on the once-white tablecloth are
celebrated through embroidery as
a record of the story they mark.
The base of each tableware lines up
with a stain as though it is growing up
from the tablecloth.
I dream of the family who will one day
join me at my table to use these objects,
and for now begin my traditions
proudly on my own.
